Aretha Franklin makes history with Pulitzer Prize
Pure Truth Tuesday April 16, 2019 On Monday, the late great Aretha Franklin became the first woman to receive the Pulitzer special award and citation, for her “indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five (5) decades.”
The other special awards were given to forty (40) men, including Hank Williams, Duke Ellington, Bob Dylan and John Coltrane.
With more than seventy (70) songs to reach Billboard Top 100, Aretha Franklin was also the first women admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Franklin passed away at the age of seventy-six (76), in August of 2018.
